Leg Pain
Do you suffer from knee or leg pain?
Your feet could be the cause. There are all types of leg and knee problems that are impacted by the feet, some are directly caused by foot function others are related to foot function.
Knee Pain and Leg Pain
Certain knee problems such as patello-femoral pain syndrome are very closely related to foot function and the position it places the knee during walking and running. If you are pronating the foot during the push off phase of walking or running this can be rotating your lower leg in and changing the position of your knee resulting in increased pressure in the wrong area and knee pain or injury.
Muscular tightness, soreness or pain can be a result of abnormal foot function or restriction at the foot and ankle causing calf pain, ITB (iliotibial band) pain, thigh pain or shin pain like shin splints.
Treatment
Assessment of walking, running foot function, strength and range of motion is important for all knee and leg problems to develop a treatment plan.
Common Treatments include footwear changes, myofascial/trigger point release/dry needling of tight muscles. Strengthening and stretching rehabilitation programs, foot mobilisation to reduce any restriction. Orthotics to improve foot function.
